PEPPOL-EN16931-R101

Element Document reference can only be used for Invoice line object

What does this rule mean?

A document reference on line level is used for something other than the line object.

On a line the document reference is reserved for the invoiced object identifier; other references belong at document level.

Official rule message (standard)

Element Document reference can only be used for Invoice line object

Where the rule applies

Syntax: CII · UBL

The same rule, expressed twice: UBL and CII name the same fields with different paths. Running a CII file against the UBL rules is why you get errors that mean nothing.

UBL

  • cac:InvoiceLine | cac:CreditNoteLine

CII

  • ram:IncludedSupplyChainTradeLineItem

Technical test

The rule passes when this Schematron expression holds true:

(not(ram:SpecifiedLineTradeSettlement/ram:AdditionalReferencedDocument) or (ram:SpecifiedLineTradeSettlement/ram:AdditionalReferencedDocument/ram:TypeCode='130'))

How to fix it

A missing or incorrect business entry only you can supply. Add or correct it, then re-check.

Move the reference to document level.

Correct the affected entry in your XML, then re-check the invoice. Validation runs locally in your browser — your file never leaves your machine.
